So for the New York trip in October, should I attempt to buy Broadway/Off-Brodway tickets in advance or try the TKTS thing??

I will be there for the last week of "Xanadu" and the first week of "Young Frankenstein" (which AMEX card holders can get presales now, alas I am not an AMEX card holder). I also want to try "Altar Boyz", "Hairspray", "Avenue Q", "Forbidden Broadway", "The Drowsy Chaperone" and "Spamalot". It's possible, I think. And yes I realize how much that shall be costing - I shall attempt the financials. How much do you save using TKTS? I can save huge on a hotel by staying at a Hostel.

I could squeeze in a Matinee and an evening show on Saturday and Sunday - that's four. Then a show on Thursday, Friday and Monday. Hmmm, that leaves one out. Are there matinees any other day of the week? I was planning on a Wednesday through Tuesday trip but could possibly get another day in there. The cool thing is that Friday of the trip is a payday so extra money for me! I shall be there the 10th through the 15th.

That leaves me free time during the day. What else should I do??

KC and bachelor_girl - whay days shuld I set aside for you? Any preference for a show? We'de have to go dutch, though.

Anyone else??

Does anything you want to see run on Mondays? Keep me posted on your plans... I'll figure something out around them. :-)

As far as TKTS goes... you can save as much as half the ticket price, but I don't know how consistent that is.

There are matinees on Wednesdays at 2 pm. TKTS has tickets for 25-50% off. They won't have tixkets for Young Frankenstein, but they should have for older shows. I'm not sure about Xanadu, depends on how well it's doing. You can definitely get Altar Boyz tix for $25.

You might want to check any book tour sources you have. I know Lance is scheduled to do one in Chicago in October, so you don't want to go when he's not in the show.

Are you still coming in August, too?

Oh, also, most Broadway theaters are dark Sunday night & Monday, so check into that.

Sadly, August is out as everyone else beat me to the time off.

As of right now I believe Xanadu is scheduled to close the 18th of October. I shall be keeping an eye out for book tour info, thanks for the heads up!

I'd love to catch up with you while you're here! I also recommend you add "Spring Awakening" to your list of shows you want to see! ;)

Would love to see you, and am free most weekdays after 2pm (unless my schedule changes in the fall, which it might). Might not be able to afford a show, but dinner or a late lunch should work.

Hey, hi, wow! 1) just say yes to Spring awakening, but those you may want to get tickets for ahead, since they won't show up on TKTS. 2) You can stay with us for part of the trip, if you like! that could save some dough! 3) I also know where the good hostels are! 4) There are a few discount services where you can buy tickets ahead, but not TOO far ahead. I belong to one, and can forward you all the sekrit codz!

Last time (well, the only time) I went to Broadway for reasons of fannish love, several theatres offered on-the-day tickets for $20. You had to get in line at about 10am and could get a seat right in front of the stage... I don't know whether that still happens, or which theatres do it, but it's worth looking into. (If you ever venture into newsgroups, try watching rec.arts.theatre.musicals for a while, there always used to be plenty of information there.

'rush' tickets or same day lottery for 1st row seats is the way to go.
check the theatre website. also, join playbill.com.

It looks like he might be doing his book tour right when I am going.

Of course, ifthat is true it means I will just have to make a daytrip or something.

And sadlu, I have no way of taking pictures.

I believe you can see Altar Boyz for $25 if you don't mind sitting in the first two rows on the far left or far right side of the theater. They have this option every night except Saturday night. You can buy them at the box office or you can order it online on telecharge.com; look for "Orchestra (Front Side): $25.00," but there are some fees so it might come to $30. I've never been there, but it's a tiny theater and people say there really is not bad seat in the house. If you haven't seen it before, it's a great show. Good luck! -toastergirl
