You have to love stores that break street dates on CDs. I have the new movie soundtrack version of The Phantom of the Opera. The Special Edition. I like it.

A lot.

The Phantom's voice is dark and wonderful, Christine has the pipes although she does occasionally not go where she needs to, Raoul isn't bad - very American. Minnie Driver plays the diva Carlotta and is dubbed by a trained operatic soprano as Minnie is neither. Minnie does get the closing credits song, written especially for the movie release.

I so want to see this.

I give you yousendit links, left click and download.

The Phantom of the Opera, sung by the Phantom (Gerard Butler) and Christine (Emmy Rossum) - 5.02 mb

The Music of the Night, sung by the Phantom - 6.46 mb

All I Ask of You, sung by Raoul (Patrick Wilson) and Christine - 5.57 mb

Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, sung by Christine - 4.22 mb

Learn To Be Lonely, sung by Minnie Driver - 2.80 mb

Oh! Will be grabbing Patrick. Metaphorically. Unfortunately.

Raoul isn't bad - very American.

Oh! Them's almost fightin' words, boy. :-) I have a thing for Patrick Wilson and, while I haven't heard his Raoul, I will fight for his honour, if need be. :-)

I'm so not objective. ::grins::

Minnie does get the closing credits song, written especially for the movie release.

Written especially so it can get nominated for 'Best Original Song' at the Oscar's, you mean. ::grins:: ::is snarky::

I have no idea who Patrick Wilson is, I'm going purely on accents and voices here. He is the only one WITHOUT an accent, which I guess means he's the only one to have one? Minnie's is over-the-top Italian. She's comic relief, I can tell.

And "yeah" to that last bit, exactly what I was thinking. It's not a bad song, short and she has a really nice voice.

::gasp::

Oh, honey. You're telling me you don't own the OBC Recording of either 'Oaklahoma' (I think they recorded that, if I'm not mistaken) or 'The Full Monty'? And you didn't see 'Angels in America' (at least out of curiosity)?

::is pained::

I want to like Minnie Driver. I hope I do. :-)

I DO own Full Monty but the cast album I have for Olahoma is the original. The oooold one.

And I still haven't seen "Angels" yet. I'm trying to talk myself into buying it for Christmas.

And, by OCB of 'Oaklahom' I, of course, meant NewBCR. But, as you might have guessed, he's on 'The Full Monty'.

I was going to buy 'Angels' for myself. And then I realized that there was nothing else on the dvd except for the movie, which I taped off tv. And, therefore could not justify the expense. Alas. ;-)

Ooh, thank you for sharing these!

Phantom is my all-time favourite musical (I've seen it six times-- with four different casts, in three different cities-- and counting), and I'm *very* anxious to see the movie. :)

I've seen it with Davis Gaines who had the better singing voice and Robert Guillaume (Benson!) who had the better acting skills.

I loved it both times.

Of the four different Phantom's I've seen, I have to say that, without a doubt, Jeff Hyslop was my favourite. Um, *who*, you ask? [g]

He's a Canadian actor who, when I was little, played Jeff (a walking, talking mannequin, no less) on my favourite show, "Today's Special". (Seen only here in Canadia, if I'm not mistaken.)

He was *amazing* as the Phantom.

Theversion I have is two disks and includes a LOT of incidental speaking and sound effects in many of the songs (almost two hours, the final bit is almost 15 minutes long). I plan on picking up the regular version which should be songs only (one hour long), but not until Wednesday.

Your choice would be??

Heh. I'll have BOTH versions. I'm a sucker that way. I have five versions of "Chicago" alone. I have no willpower sometimes.

I'll start shooting the long version tracks out to you tomorrow. Total of 25 tracks including these.

Hm. Not so taken with the Phantom so far. Seems like he's trying too hard to be like other Phantoms, and...no. Did anyone else think of Igor when he first started the shouting commands in TPotO? No? Alrighty, then. Loving Christine and Raoul, tho. So wish this film was here, already.

Thank you very much for sharing these!
