I thank all of you who have wished me a happy 35th. Sadly the family has kept quite. Eh. Birthdays were never a big thing inthe family past the age of 18 anyhow.

Got cake at work. Nice.

And this was a nice gift as yanked from [livejournal.com profile] ianmcduff's LJ for ma birfday. This is ameme I can get behind.

Assume that, at the behest of the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress, and gladly accepted by the artists, at scale, as a benefit (and a way to get some critical respect for a change), BSB, ’N Sync, Christina, and Brit have all agreed to participate in an American Songbook project.

Pick one to three or so (five, hell, I don’t care) songs, preferably from the wayback machine, for each of the bands, each of the members, and each of the gals to cover.

Sadly, as my knowledge of the American Songbook type music is lacking, and I am a huge mondo showtune ho (*waves at BG*), I chose to go for a retrospective of Stage Musicals (for the most part) as my benefit. I think a Pop Goes Porter or Sondheim or Hammerstein or etc show would be a fantastic draw.

I also added more girls (Beyonce and Pink), since I'm also all about the divas

Your birthday, and you give US presents.

Mmmmm. Nice choices.

May I suggest a few additions, on behalf of us lower register types?

'Molasses to Rum,' Edwards, 1776, Lance.
'My Object All Sublime,' G&S, The Mikado, Kevin.
'Sh'poopi,' Willson, The Music Man, Joey.

Now come on and give us the next show (Kiss Me, Kate, I trust, will figure in it).

I want him to sing that song and see him perform the "frolicing" scene.

Yowza.

A good half of those shows were from the 30s/40s and only exist on CD compilations anymore. Damn good songs those.

And can we have all the other SDB's as the frolickees?

I'll be over in this corner

::waves back::

::flashes some skin::

And, now we have my completely unsocilited color commentary.

When You're Good To Mamma: Christina (Chicago)
Oh, yes please.

You'll Never Walk Alone: Brian (Carousel)
I have a first born child for whomever can make this happen.

Someone To Watch Over Me: Howie (Oh, Kay!)
This, too.

How Long Has this Been Going On?: Howie (Rosalie)
Well, maybe I just want Howie to do a Gershwin album.

And. Amen to the whole Sondheim cycle. Chris! Children Will Listen! Yes.

Whatever Lola Wants: Beyonce (Richard Adler - Damn Yankees)
Wow. Yes, please.

I'm a Stranger Here Myself: AJ (Kurt Weill - can't remember the show)
The show is "One Touch of Venus" I believe.

I'd Rather Be Sailing: Nick (William Finn - A New Brain)
Have I mentioned lately that I love you? Though I would love to hear Brian or JC sing it, it is such a Nick song.

Mean to Me: Pink (Alhert & Turk - Ain't Misbehavin')
Heh. I'd never woulda thunk that one. Intriguing.

Corner of the Sky: Lance (Stephen Schwartz - Pippin)
See... now, I was going to have Brian or Joey sing that one.

Okay.... I am *so* gacking this meme tomorrow. After I sleep.

And, I even have an appropriate icon. :-)Á
