divulging a deep dark secret
Jul. 22nd, 2003 09:44 pmYep.
I admit it. I'm going to spill my guts and tell you an embarassing secret about me
Short story collections take me FOREVER to read. Really.
Forever.
I don't know why it's so, but it's true nevertheless. David Sedaris' Holidays on Ice wit ha total ofthree stories, took me a month to finish. Probably takes me so long because a novel is one LONG story and I make a weird connection in my mind that way. Who knows.
So, Steve, I haven't finished yet but I will. I absolutely adored His Paper Doll, that was so nice, especially the comeuppance of pretty-boy Han. Beach 2 was a nice introduction to the book. So far the most "straight" of the lot I've read. And by straight I mean "normal". The Resurrectionist is pure, delicious horror alongthe lines of Poe in my mind. Truly with the horrific-ness. The thought proceses were logical and believable. Stormed and taken in Prague was, strangely, a fun story to read. Mildly disturbing but damn intriguing plot. I really liked the juxtaposition of religious iconography (is that the right word?) with frat/everyday life in Vespers and the disturbing ending. Left Alone was bleak. Beautifully bleak.
I have decided that you are a very image-driven author. Which I like, your prose makes me imagine the scene. Love it.
I swear! I WILL get to the rest of them. Hopefully soon.
Mostly because, I'm feeling guilty that I haven't let
mroctober know what I think yet. Hopefully that will allay any fears.
On a side not. Lance checking inwith possesive-boy? Any more info on this?
