After a dry period of not posting I am embracing the spam. I forgot something and realized it just before bed and since I will probably forget it in the night I better post it now.

Does anyone remeber the Choose Your Own Adventure series of books? The whole read a bit and then you have to make a choice and go to page 55 or make a different choice and go to page 27. Most of your choices ended up in death with a select few having good endings?

Well, they've grown up.

One of the managers and I were wandering the store tonight keeping an eye on the Emo Kids when we stumbled upon two books, Classics Professor by Michael Hemmingson and Kathryn City by Mary Anne Mohanraj. The series title? Create your Own Erotic Fantasy. And, yes, it does have things along the lines of "if you choose to open his zipper go to page 77" and "if you choose to play it safe go to page 109". Unfortunatley it also has alot ofjust "go to page 43" in it instead of choice. We followed one of the storylines and ended up getting kicked out of our apartment after one rather exciting night.

too funny. There's apparently one called Tijuana Tingle, also.

I love finding new and interesting books at work.

I have decided to read Robert Fagle's translation of Homer's the Iliad and the Thomas Cleary translation of Sun Tzu's The Art of War. Not sure why, picked them up at work and found them intriguing. Think I will read the two historical What If? books I saw, also. After I finish these, of course.

Choose Your Own Adventure!!!! *nostalgic sigh* I was completely addicted to those in juior high. For my freshman high school computer literacy project, I coded one of them into Applesoft Basic, complete with original artwork in hi-res graphics.

I'm going to be at Borders later today, so I'll have to look these up.

Of course, Lattimore works also. Stanley Lombardo is ... interesting. (Lamentably, the server at Tufts's Perseus Project is down at the moment, so I will save some further remarks.)

TC's Sun-Tzu Ping Fa is all right, but check out Ralph Sawyer's translation as well.

And I assume you refer to Cowley's MHQ-based What If?s. Good choice, mostly. Ignore any Caleb Carr contributions, though: Carr is to Cowley as Jayson Blair was to Howell Raines. Keegan is superb as always.

I like Carr's mysteries but hated his sci-fi and never read any of his histories.

This current histpry kick is relatively new (outside my long running Asian history interest) so I am embracing it as long as it lasts.

Will check them out.

And translations' are always necessary as I don't speak ancient Greek or Ancient ancient Chinese. Heck my Spanish and German have lamentably fallen to the very basics. And the little French I once new is long gone.

They seemed to be a very much "boy" thing. Most ofthegirls I knew found them stupid or childish, the guys I all knew just loved em to pieces. We all read throgu htrying to get killed in as many ways a spossible.

The dying was the highlight of some of the stories, they came up with so many ways to kill you off.

This is truly lumped nder "guy thing" I believe.
