Had to get a new hard drive today. There goes what little savings I had.

It wasn't too bad though, I did do backups of almost everything (including my pics and bookmarks, thank god!) a few weeks ago when everyone else had their computer problems.

So to make myself feel better I brought home many promotional CDs. For a little glimpse of my musical tastes

Tom Jones Greatest Love Songs, Madonna American Life, Edwin McCain The Austin Sessions, Anastacia Freak of Nature, Lisa Stansfield Biography, Dance Party 2003, two country compilations, Blondie Greatest Hits, Sarah Brightman Encore, Mandy Patinkin Sings Sondheim, two pop/rock compilations, Heart The Essential Heart, Carly Simon Anthology, James Taylor The Best of, Evanescence Fallen, Elvis Presley 30 #1 Hits, Cirque du Soleil Varakai, When Love Goes Wrong: Songs for the Broken-Hearted a verve Jazz compilation (I love those), Erasure Other People's Songs, The Music Man the TV version with Matthew Broderick, Keith Urban Golden Road, Elton John Greatest Hits 1970-2002 and six Putamayo world music compilations.

I think there are more I need still at work, some Billie Holiday, Ella, Vince Guaraldi, Black Sabbath, Chicago, and some old Christmas compilations.

I love being the supervisor sometimes.

And on a completely random note does anyone know if there are any SDB/Heralds of Valdemar stories? I shall have to go find out, I am craving.

Ooh, Varekai! Did you watch the series on Bravo where they followed some of the performers from casting all the way through opening night? Actually, I'm sure you didn't because you don't have a TV, but it was really cool. (And the gumaley performers ran around a lot with no shirts and lycra tights on, not that I noticed or anything. ^_^)

And I'm curious -- was Matthew Broderick any good in the Music Man? I didn't see it, but I know that his voice is kind of reedy and thin -- pretty nice, but stil reedy and thin -- and the part is usually played by someone with a more robust voice.

So if I start flirting with the music supervisor at the Borders near me, I might be able to score CD's like this? Just curious. Heh.

And I pretty much oly allow staff to get the freebies, this store is HUGELY stingy with them. You have to get "special recognition" to use them. but every now and then I'll throw a couple of boxes to the wolves. So to speak.

I heard about the show, didn't get to see any of it. I DO have a TV but no cable. the only stations I get are Boston news station (badly) and PAX. I have seen the various DVDs of their productions, so that's really cool.

Haven't listened to Music Man yet. Will let ya know.

Free cd's is always a good thing.

The promotional cd's was my favorite perk when I was a manager of a music store. The BMG rep would hook me up big time. Half my cd collection is promos.

Oh, yeah! I understand that. Most of mine is also. The only rep we get up here is the WEA(?) rep, I wish we got the BMG guy in our area. Only stuff I get from them, only occasionally, are posters.
