I plan on buying my San Diego Comic-Con tickets and airline tickets this weekend - the only problem being when I went and checked the preferred hotels (all 15 of them) they all seem to be booked solid.

Anyone have any hints on other hotels close to the Convention Center?

I stayed at the Comfort Inn, and it's not far. You take one bus to Old Town and then the trolly right to the convention center, if it's the one on the waterfront that I'm thinking of. Also makes it handy to go see Old Town, which is a must.

They are all booked? Holy. Did you tell them you were part of the com? Cause they might be holding tickets for that.

Did you go through the con reservation site, or call the hotels direct?

we started using the website at 9:20 the day reservations opened, and the first seven hotels we tried were already full. We got into the Westgate, which is farther than we wanted but right on the trolley line.

Here is what I heard through my connection: the blocks comicon buys for con-goers are much too small for the demand, but no one will sell them more. They do keep a waiting list, if you call the travel phone number, and a lot of people get rooms about six weeks before con because people cancel.

the hotels may or may not have rooms for sale at a higher rate than the discount con rate.
