I have just realized what bothers me so much about Potter/Buffy crossovers where Xander/Willow/Buffy end up as teachers for the Potter kids. It's tha fact that Harry, Hermione, Draco and the rest ofthe first years from book one (which takes place in the school year of 1991-1992) are two years OLDER than Buffy, Xander and Willow. Season one of Buffy encapsulates the school year of 1997-1998 when they're all Sophomores (age approx. 15 years old). That would be Harry's Seventh year at Hogwarts (age 17).

So technically it should be Hermione, Harry and Draco ending up as TAs for the Buffycast in their first year of college. Or even as the RAs of their dorm.

This timeline could explain why I always have problems with those types of stories.

91-92 HP Year One - Harry, Hermione, Draco, Ron
92-93 HP Year Two - Ginny, Colin, and Oz would start this year
93-94 HP Year Three - This would be Willow and Xanders first year, Xander would be almost a Squib - Snape would hate him on sight, I am sure.
94-95 HP Year Four -
95-96 HP Year Five -
96-97 HP Year Six - this would be the year Buffy burned down her High School and Oz gets bitten by a werewolf and misses most of the year - ooh! Whatshisname the evil werewolf from the books!O r would this happen the next year?)
97-98 HP Year Seven - Buffy moves to England (her Sophomore year in American High School) - I can only imagine she would be a Muggle so how would she get tied in with the HP world? Giles as the DA instructor?? He tutors Buffy on the side?

And just to add the Sparkly: Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera would both be inthe same year as Harry.

Bleeeee, Timeline Fun!

Yeah, I'm apparently crazy enough to find timelines fun, 'cuz there's almost NONE that actually make cohesive sense ON THEIR OWN, much less crossed with another one.

Um, just to point it out, Buffy Season One (sophomore year of high school) was actually the '96-'97 school year. The series premiered in March of '97, as a mid-season replacement, with only 12 episodes, encompassing the entirety of Buffy's Sophomore year at Sunnydale High (well, the final episode of Season One was the "Spring Fling" dance, but it's accepted that this pretty much equated prom, i.e. end of school year.) Season Two (Junior Year) debuted in September of '97, the series flowing more-or-less in real time from there. Buffy's year of birth is canonically 1980, though the specific date has been listed two or three different ways on-screen. The "birthday episode" of each season was usually mid-to-late February, so if she started kindergarten in the Fall of '86 as one of the older six-year-old children in the class (or she was held back a grade somewhere BEFORE high school? Hmmm...), this would fit Freshman Year of '95-'96 and Sophomore of '96-'97, matching the series. So, if Harry's First Year was '91-'92, then Buffy and the core Scoobies were in 5th grade, average age ten years old, so they're only ONE year (on the average) younger than The Trio, right? Oh, and yeah, Oz was a year older, and he was bitten by the werewolf in Buffy's second season, right around Buffy's birthday, so that would be in early '98, HP Year Seven.

And OW, I fried my brain workig all that out, even WITH scratch paper and a calculator. Oi. *g*

Oops, meant to ask:

How do Justin and Christina match Harry and Company? Justin was born in '81, so he was eleven in the fall of '92, not '91 with Harry. Heh, he'd actually match Buffy, who I am STILL not sure WHY she wouldn't have been in Harry's year to begin with. Xander claims to be 17 in Buffy's second season, so his age matches hers... ..I have NO idea, but when =I= was in school, and my three-years-younger brother, AND my seven-almost-eight-years-younger other-brother, the seventeen was the average age of a SENIOR, not a Junior. Is California wacky-different, or something?

I dunno, and now my brain hurts. That's enough timeline fun for one day, lol.

*facepalm*

Nevermind, I'm an idiot.

Buffy's birthday is '81, not '80, according to the tombstone at the end of Season 5 (which oddly has only years and no specific dates, heh.) They always aired the birthday eps in late January or early February, (according to Joss Whedon; I swear I remember them being in February, but obviously my memory is shot today,so...) so she's withing two weeks of Timberlake's age. Nevermind my whole confusion over her missing a year somewhere, heh. That still doesn't explain Xander's being 17 in the fall semester of junior year, because we know he was in kindergarten onwards with Willow from the end of Season 6... ..then again, given his home life, I could see his entering school late, poor guy.

So yeah, long story short, Buffy & Co. would be one year behind Harry & Co.
Scoobies not in any position to be teaching The Trio, no.

hee, I love how you kept commenting on this to get the facts right!

So funny. Yet true - it's nice to know that I was at least basically right.

The only bit I ever actually wrote out (and was eaten when my old computer went phooey was a little bit between Mrs Weasley and Bev Kirkpatrick chatting over the back fence to each other about their kids and how Chris, George and Fred were making Percy's life miserable.

It sort of sucked.

You know, I just remembered that a long time ago, you asked me for a Harry/Oz crossover fic. I roughed it out while waiting in an airport for a flight -- I'll see if I can find it in my writing journal....

Good lord. I had forgotten about that entirely.

But you've mentioned it now so I may poke you about it.

No, no! Justin is born in January 1981 he would be in the same year as Ginny. It's Nick that's in the same year as Harry et al. (And JC is in the same year as Percy and Oliver Wood, and AJ in the same as the Weasley twins. Can you tell I looked all of this up once :-)

If he doesn't turn 11 until January of 92 then he would start first year that Autumn in September, as you must be 11 to start your first year. Huh. You are correct. He IS in Ginny's year. I am idiot personified. But not concerned enough to actually fix the post, as I am also procrastination personified.

And Drew is in the year that JC starts as well. Yum. And Oliver Wood.
