Yo!!

Anyone been to Barnes & Noble lately?

Do you still have your receipt?

Do you have access to a scanner?

If so, can you scan the part of the receipt that has the return policy on it and email it to me? I have heard rumours of what it states and need proof.

email would be: owlknight68 at yahoodotcom

I thank you in advance!

It's just their policy is said tyo be EXTREMELY tight, if it's as tight as has been rumoured then I think this could impact the amount of returns we will get at seom of our stores since ours is rather lenient.

Oh! Well, now. I returned something to them not all that long ago. And it wasn't a pleasant experience, I can tell you that. It was two paperbacks that hadn't been out of the bag or my car, and withing 24 hours of the original purchase. I was told they wouldn't take them back because the pages weren't tight. [hey, humidity sucks, what am I supposed to do about that?] I explained that they had been in the car and not out of the bag, showed that the bindings and covers were still pristine and was again told no. The manager came over and talked to me like a 4 year old, saying I could have taken them home and read them overnight. Blah Blah Blah. I pitched a fit. Books are resellable if the bindings are good etc. These looked perfect and a day or so behind another couple of books and they would have been flat [her word, not mine] as the others.

She gave me store credit [they weren't going to do anything] and made them take down my name so I could not return anything again. I told her not to worry, I wasn't going to be shopping there ever again. Then I walked over to the coffee shop and got tea, and goodies with my store credit. [I didn't think they were going to let me]

Oddly enough, there is a B&N equal distance in the other direction and they take back all sorts of stuff. I wonder if it's the 'neighborhood' they're in that makes a difference?

that's the problem, I'm not sure.

I'm told it's very strict, which I need to verify so I can figure out how this will impact OUR returns at Borders.

Here's what it says:
Valid photo ID required for all returns, exchanges and to receive and redeem store credit. With a receipt, a full refund in the original form of payment will be issued for new and unread books and unopened music within 30 days from any Barnes & Noble store. Without an original receipt, a store credit will be issued at the lowest selling price. With a receipt, returns of new and unread books and unopened music from bn.com can be made for store credit. A gift receipt or exchange receipt serves as proof of purchase price only. An exchange or store credit will be offered for new and unread books and upopened music/DVDs/audio for the price paid.

FYI, did you get the message I left you about the Lance BBC interview?

Weren't you the one that asked me about my Lance icon and where it was from? If not, I'm sorry. I got the wrong person. If you are, I posted in that original post that I found the file. It's a real audio file and if you hit me up on instant message, I'll transfer it to you.

I work at a BN and the return policy is *very* tight. The one that is above is our old policy, here's what our new one states:

Valid photo ID required for all returns, exchanges and to receive and redeem store credit. With a receipt, a full refund in the original form of payment will be issued for new and unread books and unopened music within 14 days from any Barnes & Noble store. For merchandise purchased with a check, a store credit will be issued. Without an original receipt, a store credit will be issued by mail and will be offered at the lowest selling price. With a receipt, returns of new and unread books and unopened music from bn.com can be made for store credit. A gift receipt or exchange receipt serves as proof of purchase price only. An exchange or store credit will be offered for new and unread books and unopened music/DVD/audio for the price paid.

The hardest part to enforce is the 14 days, because most stores are 30 (I've even seen 90). People really tend to get pissy about it.

The one I posted above was from a book I bought on Friday 9/16/05, just 4 days ago. Obviously all the stores aren't in the loop yet if it is the old policy.

Hmmm, I know they told us that they were testing the policy here in California and in New York as well, so I guess they haven't adopted it at all the stores. I know that we haven't used the 30 days policy in about 4 months or so. But I have a feeling since it's worked so well in our store, they'll be adopting it soon. I think they really wanted to cut down on the amount of returns that we get when people come in, take books off the shelf, and return them to get store credit. And it's really worked for that.
