Lord.

This has been an interesting couple of weeks.

Finding out certain pieces of information at Supervisor Training and then talking to the GM, ramifications of said talks with all the supervisors has not yet rolled down. It shall be interesting.

On the outs with the family right now, apparently I don't call often enough, which is true - but my life is boring and I have no news for them. Am I supposed to just psychically know when things happen up there and call to hear what they are?

And we had a customer die (technically) in ths tore today. My bookstore. This was a first for me. Luckily there were a couple of nurses (who had just ran into each other in the store after not having seen each other since classes tow YEARS ago) in the store who performed CPR and brought him back just as the EMT's arrived. Unfortunatley he died at the hospital. He was 81. My manager was al ittle shook up and called me cold due to my lack or reaction to said incident. I am not CPR trained, I called 911, I kept customers away, I did not panic, I asked the correct questions of the EMTs and nurses and took care of the Incident report, and was not crushed to find out he did not make it. For one thing - my dad is an EMT, I used to be CPR and lifeguard trained, I have performed this on people before (just not in YEEEEEAARSSS), so I have come to terms with death and my own mortality over five years ago. It was his time, peopel helped him, and he didn't die alone - his wife was with him at the end - she thanked the nurses for their help.

And since I have now been tagged by three separate people I give you
The 20 random things meme

It sounds like you handled the in-store incident exactly right -- you didn't panic, got proper care for the man ASAP, and kept the scene under control. You'd think that your manager would want that rather than someone who was falling all to pieces.

And since I haven't been tagged by the 20 random things meme, I'm going to pretend that you tagged me so I can do it with a clear conscience. :-)

No gag reflex, eh? ;-)

Aww, I'm sorry about the Lambs in Space. I have tried and tried to write stuff and it's just not moving along at all. Maybe now that I have no TV I can get back on NaNoWriMo and do the second story in November. I KNOW what's going to happen, it's just writing it that sucks.

And you are SURE you won't give any hints to #20? Considering I don't watch TV, I probably won't know who it is anyway.

I too really, really enjoy Lambs in Space - it's one of the few Lambs stories I like - and would be extatic if you ever wrote more of it. As a life-long science fiction fan the only thing I mourn in popslash is the relative scarcity of sf themed stories

I can think of....three off the top of my head, fantasy? Loads ofthose, but SF hardly any.

Three? Let's see... there's Lambs in Space and there's [livejournal.com profile] patchworkdragon's No Gravity to Fall and [livejournal.com profile] escapist_xbq's Pickers and Grinners, Lovers and Sinners. That's three. But I'm almost sure there's a BSB story featuring Kevin the Space Fighter Pilot from Larger Than Life. I can't for the life of me remember who wrote it or what the plot was about, so it might not have been very interesting :-)

Oh yes, and [livejournal.com profile] forceofisis is writing a Letterboys in Space story that so far have had four instalments IIRC.

Far too few! I want more sparkly boys in space, dammit!

Obviously popslash writers doesn't read enough science fiction. It's a pity that I'm totally incapable of writing fiction myself. Especially since I actually get sf scenario ideas now and then. Just scenarios mind you, never any plot. *sad sigh*

That's okay, I'll love him for you, too. And god, I hope it's Nick or Greg. [g]

wow. that's weird. At least you were there to keep everything calm--sometimes when people get freaked out and over-emotional, they get angry when you don't. I've learned this very strange truth lately. :x

PE in *college*! That's just wierd to my Swedish sensibilities. But I think you're a little younger when you start college/university than we are here in Sweden. Ordinary school (compulsory) age 7 - 15/16, "high school" (technically voluntary, in practice almost everyone goes) 15/16 - 18/19 (or 19/20 in some cases). So everyone is at least 18 and many even 19 when they start college/university. It's probably harder to treat people who are legally adult as high schoolers.

I started at 18, I think most people do as we graduate high school usually arounf 17/18.

It's bizarre the things we are required to take to graduate.
