Interesting day

ramble starts now:
So I get less than two hours of sleep last night, my own damn fault really, reading The Center series (LOVE it!!), so I'mdragging all day. I start walking to work forgetting entirely that it rained yesterday so that all the puddles proceededto freeze over night causing much slippage for me, gave up and called a cab after 2 blocks. Get to work and realize that I will be having no time today to get anything constructive done supervisor-wise as I get saddled with 5 hours of register leading (basically ringing sales, getting change, approving things), manage to at least tell my staff what needs to be done (why, oh why, don't they realize that when a displa sells down you fill it?? Where's the common sense?).
Then there's the customers. ya know, I love retail (been in it for 15 years now, which really us almost frightening and almost gives away my age) and all but for two months out of the year I almost hate it. Working retail during the holidays is mindnumbing, exasperating and stressful. Mindnumbing for the simple fact that it actually started in October for us (that's when the first required displays went up) and that the customers just keep coming and coming and coming. And not in a good way dammit! Exasperating 'cause they all end up asking the same questions, it seems, they bitch and moan about how busy it is not realizing that, hello short season this year and you're out here adding to it yourself, and then want to chat when there are, literally, 30 people waiting in line behind them. There are also members ofthe staff that don't help things, one woman C seems to know EVERYONE and wants to talk and catch up on old times. Yes, it's nice for the customers but what about your coworkers? For every one you help, the others have helped three! Stressful simply for the fact it's so busy, we have to keep up our cheer and not snap at ANYONE, clean up after every little thing, and deal with it when people decide not to come in for their shifts.
And I actually had a Clerks moment today. A customer actually asked for a book they saw on TV, no idea what show, no idea what author, no clue on the title - not even ONE word, no real idea what it was about even. She knew it was BLUE, a hardback and new. She proceeded to get miffed at me for not knowing what it was.
Whatever.
I'm very tired and feeling humbuggish today. And the fact that I will be missing out on not going up to my parent for the Holiday is a little depressing. Damn medical bills!! Have to tell my parents the news tomorrow. They won't even get their gifts until mid January.
On a happier note (yippee!) we got in the new NSYNC DVD, the videography one. I'm sure I'll buy it eventually. For anyone interested, it comes out Tuesday, costs 19.99 retail and has the following videos on it
Bye,Bye,Bye
It's Gonna Be Me
This I Promise You
Pop
Gone
Girlfriend
Girlfriend remix feat. Nelly
This I Promise You Spanish version
Pop live at the MTV VMA's
Gone live at MTV's Roadto Celebrity
20 bucks for 10 videos, and NONE of the ones from before NSA. A little bummed about that, but still!! New DVD!
::does a little happy dance in my chair::
OK, done rambling/ranting will now go drink some coffeemilk and try to get to sleep at a reasonable hour. After I watch "Adventures of Baron Munchhausen," of course.
