I cannot for the life of me figure out the whole torrent thing. It never seems to work right.

Does anyone know how I can go about getting the Extreme Makeover episode everyone is talking about???

On a completely different note, my Ethan Embry wallpaper is wonderful!

Where did you download your bittorrent program from? Usually, if the person set everything up properly, you can left click on the file that you want to download and it should pop up asking you where to save the file. Once you choose where you want to save it, the torrent window should open and try to connect to others that have the same program open on their computers (effectively you are downloading from them.) So if there isn't anyone with that window open it will say "connecting to peers" until there is another person with that same program window open. Does that make any sense? lol Let me know what is happening when you go to download it and maybe something will trigger about what is going on. :)

the downloads seemed to work fine as I got them from the "official" sites for bittorrent and then burst.

I think it's the destination folder. It keeps saying it's "in use" then won't let me change it.

Hmmm....I've never had that happen to me. I know it sounds stupid - but did you try restarting your computer? Or uninstalling the program and re-installing it? Maybe whoever uploaded the file originally did something wrong because it should let you save it to whatever folder you want. That's really odd. I'm not that much of an expert at the program, so I can't help too much with weird problems like that. Sorry!

actually, I'm an idiot.

I got it to work.

Turns out I didn't have my ports opened through my firewall.

They need to release the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on dvd because the torrent thing isn't working for me either. Actually, it technically works but is it really supposed to take 90+ hours on a cable modem to download? That seems a little extreme and not worth it to me. If you get one to download, how long does it take for you? I'm just curious to see if it's just me and I'm doing something wrong.

it turns out I didn't have the correct firewall ports opened so it wasn't very effective. This looks as though it will take 7 hours, which is much better than 90.

And I just discovered that the more people sharing the shorter it will take, which explains the 55 hours for a comic book torrent. Huh.

I've not had much luck with bittorrent either. I had it maybe a year ago and was able to download a couple of movies but they did take a couple of days. I tried to get something recently and all I get is an error saying that my IP is banned. From what I understand, some bittorrents ban certain providers because the providers put restrictions on the speed of downloads and thus slow everything down for anyone on the bittorrent circle. So, I guess Comcast Cable is banned. I'm not sure if there are other bittorrents I could use or not but it really bums me out.

you should download Azureus.

Much easier to use..

You can find it here:

http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

I haven't tried to download it yet...but I can start it tonight..and see if I can get it for you.

If you start using Azureus.. The best thing to do is to create a "My torrents" folder in your "My documents" folder. Have a secondary folder in that called "in progress". Then simply download the .torrent files of your liking to the "in progress" folder...open up Azureus..then go FILE>open .torrent file..find your files and begin the downloading process. Your completed ones will appear in the bottom window...to stop "uploading" simple right click them and go STOP then REMOVE...so that you don't have to share them with others.

Your completed files will show up in the "My torrent" folder.

If you need any other help..email me @ soul4poetry(at)gmail.com

Azureus sounds familiar. I might have tried that also but can't remember. I was trying all kinds of stuff with no luck. However, I'll try it again this weekend as I'm off work Friday and Saturday and have some time.
Thanks,

I totally second the Azureus thing. So easy. So fast. If you need help tweaking the settings, let me know.

And yeah, that Extreme Makeover Home Ed. was just gut wrenching.

i just torrented and watched part 2 from SuprNova (http://www.suprnova.org/). From the home page, click on search, then type in "Extreme Makeover Home". Scroll down and then select the one that's tagged extreme.makeover.home.edition.s02e09-tvl.torrent. That's the 2nd hour.

Have kleenex ready.

This is actually bad for the torrent network, but I have to admit that I do the same thing with some files. I get nervous when you're like the only seeder and have like 90+ leechers dl'ing the same file simultaneously on your network.

It's fun to be gangsta! *g*
