So. The new title and JKR telling us someone is going to die in the next book had me thinking.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince or without the dash, I don't remember. This theory ties in with my other theory about who is going to die. Sort of kind of a little.

First keep in mind this is the sixth book with only one more to go, so she will be ramping up on the tension and building to the climax for the last book. The prince is NOT Harry. I think it's going to be Tom Riddle due to a ritual/spell he performs that will hinge on the death previously mentioned. I do think Harry may do something (in June, of course) that will cause Voldemort to lose the magical prince status but probably won't gain it in return.

The death will half to be an integral part of the book and should be something that will unite the school. Most of the school is already united (Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws) so what would it take to get the Slytherins involved? A death in the House would do it. Only two people would qualify in this case: Snape and Draco Malfoy. Now if it's Snape there is always the chance the death will be due to Voldemort finding out that he's a spy and I somehow think the Slytherin's wouldn't mourn his death to a certain extent, he DID get caught after all, and he WAS a traitor to the cause. (This is assuming that the house is pretty much firmly on the side of Voldemort as it seems to be going in the books.)

Now Draco. He is the son of one of Voldemort's biggest supporters and seems to be heading for Death Eater-dom in a pretty straight line. Gotta love the one-note characterization she's given him. BUT...if he is used in the ritual to give Voldemort the power, causing his death, then how would his friends react? How would his House react? One of their own, a child still, a child of one of the most loyal and supportive of Death Eaters has been killed by Voldemort himself for selfish reasons. I think that the students would have to be pretty pissed at this, remember teens don't think with their heads at this age, they think with their emotions. Yes, a generalization. This could cause the Slytherin's to unite with the rest of the school (for vengeance) to the Sorting Hat's pleasure and ultimate goal. Loyalty, bravery, intelligence and cunning working together in the last book to help Harry bring down Voldemort.

I also had the thought that the death would be one ofthe Weasley parents or a twin, or possibly Dumbledore but I think those will wait until the denoument in the final novel. No one will be safe in book seven.

Any thoughts, discussin, disagreements??? Discuss.

I have no idea what to expect in this book. Every time I try to guess, I'm way off! lol I didn't think she'd kill off the person that she did in the last book, but it happened anyway. I do agree that somehow Voldemort is the half blood prince or at least connected to him somehow. All I know is that I can't wait for this book to be released. I can't even imagine the torture it will be to wait for the 7th one! :)

I love fanon Draco, canon is just a one-note character with few redeeming qualities.

JKR has actually said that Vol. is the half-blood prince - or, you know, Riddle. And oooh, I never thought about it being Draco who dies! I bet it is! EMOTIONAL CONFLICT ABOUND!

oooh, i SUCK, i'm so wrong. from her faq on her official page:
Is Tom Riddle the Half-Blood Prince?
Well, as Tom Riddle is the same person as Voldemort, and Voldemort is NOT the Half-Blood Prince… do I really need to answer this?

damn, that p[uts the kibosh on one part of my theory. maybe. Voldemort is trying to becomethe half-blood prince nd winds up making it Harry?

Maybe?

Well....

I don't know if I have decided who the half blood prince is... but I have this bad baaaad feeling that Neville is going to die. I think it is going to have something to do with the fact that it could have been either him or Harry that brought the fall of Vold. in the beginning. Vold. chose Harry, but what if he chose the wrong one!? I don't want Neville to die :( I am also scared because people always compare Harry, Ron, and Hermione to Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere and Lancelot dies bringing Guinevere and Arthur together! SAVE RON! I don't think I believe that theory as much as others though because I don't think that JK would follow another story like that... anyways... thats my two cents :)

Hmmm, a real possibility but I have a whole theory about what is going to happen in book seven and it includes Neville and the Trio and makes no one happy when I mention it.

And I'd never heard the Camelot analogy before. it makes some sense.

Well, I dunno. I think the fact that Voldemort only really supported Bella at the end of the last book and allowed a whole bunch of his other 'supporters' go to jail might play a part in things. If Draco dies, you basically have no catalyst that will get the entire Slytherin section to go along with things. If, however, Draco's FATHER was to die and to tell Draco not to be involved with V, and Draco gets some good hatred of V going, he could get all the Slytherins behind him. Or Draco's mother. Either would do.

The other idea I had was that one of the teachers gets killed. I think not Snape, as he and Harry have things to resolve that won't be done until the end. Perhaps McGonagall? Hooch? Or even Sprout? Poor little Flitwick? Perhaps it Is Snape, as he has ties to both sides, and can thus get things going in both areas. However, you are correct in that he is already seen as a traitor, except that his students LIKE him. And he appears to be anti-Harry, which Slytherins LOVE.

I really think that in the end, Harry and Draco will have to come to some kind of understanding. In order to get the school to work togehter, those two have to work together. Which means YAY on the H/D slash front. Lotsa slash-a-comin'!

I'm thinking Draco's death will be the catalyst for the Slytherins. And I did think about other teachers but it just didn't ring, except maybe for McGonagall.

And I completely forgot about Hagrid! maybe they get word of his death in book 6??

I personally think that Hagrid will be standing at the end of this. As will Snape. I think Dumbledore is going to go. And yes, Draco either has to die or to convert. There's really no other choices.

I don't think that the Weasely family will remain unscathed. I'm thinking that Daddy Weasely might go, or even one of the older brothers. Percy? Nah, he'll stay. One of the twins maybe? Or Charlie, since he's dating what's-her-face now.

I'm looking forward to what the twins will come up with though, as you know that their inventions will have something to do with this in the end. And it will be a good thing that Harry had started their venture. JKR sure has alluded to this several times.

I'm am SO psyched for this next book. And I hear it's a lot smaller. I don't know if that's a good thing!

Yep, I was thinking Arthur would die as well, and I still think one of the twins will be killed as well.

Okay, so I"m going to bring the discussion up with my kids. Most of them have read the books and are really into them and I've been talking about them with this through the semester. I gotta discuss it with my 6th and 7th graders though so that next year when it comes out we can all discuss it in more depth :)

I don't know definitely but I thought that was the estimated time for it to come out...i might be VERY wrong with this :)

It'll definitely be out next year. It's in the hand of the editors so she just has to go through rewrites and get it published. We in the book industry are expecting it Spring or early Summer.

For what it's worth, this is from The Leaky Cauldron's FAQ on book 6:

JKR implied at the recent Edinburgh Book Festival that book six was more than halfway complete. Also, during the World Book Day chat, she said:

"I can't say when it will be released, because that's down to my publishers. But it's going really well. I am loving writing it."

You're in :) it would be fun though. I have been talking with some of the kids about it so far. They think its cool that I read it too. I wanna do Literary Circles with them with the book once it comes out so I'll be buying SEVERAL copies for my classroom :)

Ive heard that Draco and Harry team up in the 7th book. Im not really sure if it would be wise to kill off Draco. I think it'd be more powerful if they had (Harry and Draco) settle their differences and unite. Also, if the Slytherins DID unite with Gryffindors, and THEN a Slytherin dies, that would be an interesting take too.

I think the Half Blood prince is Hagrid though. It only makes the most sense, like you said.

I dont think so, actually. I have too much invested into EQ 1 to pay the money to have it all transferred.

Also, I haven't been playing much of the game, but I think I might get started again. It just all depends.
