that Potter post I mentioned....
Oct. 15th, 2004 10:16 amSo. The new title and JKR telling us someone is going to die in the next book had me thinking.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince or without the dash, I don't remember. This theory ties in with my other theory about who is going to die. Sort of kind of a little.
First keep in mind this is the sixth book with only one more to go, so she will be ramping up on the tension and building to the climax for the last book. The prince is NOT Harry. I think it's going to be Tom Riddle due to a ritual/spell he performs that will hinge on the death previously mentioned. I do think Harry may do something (in June, of course) that will cause Voldemort to lose the magical prince status but probably won't gain it in return.
The death will half to be an integral part of the book and should be something that will unite the school. Most of the school is already united (Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws) so what would it take to get the Slytherins involved? A death in the House would do it. Only two people would qualify in this case: Snape and Draco Malfoy. Now if it's Snape there is always the chance the death will be due to Voldemort finding out that he's a spy and I somehow think the Slytherin's wouldn't mourn his death to a certain extent, he DID get caught after all, and he WAS a traitor to the cause. (This is assuming that the house is pretty much firmly on the side of Voldemort as it seems to be going in the books.)
Now Draco. He is the son of one of Voldemort's biggest supporters and seems to be heading for Death Eater-dom in a pretty straight line. Gotta love the one-note characterization she's given him. BUT...if he is used in the ritual to give Voldemort the power, causing his death, then how would his friends react? How would his House react? One of their own, a child still, a child of one of the most loyal and supportive of Death Eaters has been killed by Voldemort himself for selfish reasons. I think that the students would have to be pretty pissed at this, remember teens don't think with their heads at this age, they think with their emotions. Yes, a generalization. This could cause the Slytherin's to unite with the rest of the school (for vengeance) to the Sorting Hat's pleasure and ultimate goal. Loyalty, bravery, intelligence and cunning working together in the last book to help Harry bring down Voldemort.
I also had the thought that the death would be one ofthe Weasley parents or a twin, or possibly Dumbledore but I think those will wait until the denoument in the final novel. No one will be safe in book seven.
Any thoughts, discussin, disagreements??? Discuss.

Date: 2004-10-15 10:25 am (UTC)Is Tom Riddle the Half-Blood Prince?
Well, as Tom Riddle is the same person as Voldemort, and Voldemort is NOT the Half-Blood Prince⦠do I really need to answer this?

Date: 2004-10-15 10:43 am (UTC)The other idea I had was that one of the teachers gets killed. I think not Snape, as he and Harry have things to resolve that won't be done until the end. Perhaps McGonagall? Hooch? Or even Sprout? Poor little Flitwick? Perhaps it Is Snape, as he has ties to both sides, and can thus get things going in both areas. However, you are correct in that he is already seen as a traitor, except that his students LIKE him. And he appears to be anti-Harry, which Slytherins LOVE.
I really think that in the end, Harry and Draco will have to come to some kind of understanding. In order to get the school to work togehter, those two have to work together. Which means YAY on the H/D slash front. Lotsa slash-a-comin'!

Date: 2004-10-15 01:22 pm (UTC)I don't think that the Weasely family will remain unscathed. I'm thinking that Daddy Weasely might go, or even one of the older brothers. Percy? Nah, he'll stay. One of the twins maybe? Or Charlie, since he's dating what's-her-face now.
I'm looking forward to what the twins will come up with though, as you know that their inventions will have something to do with this in the end. And it will be a good thing that Harry had started their venture. JKR sure has alluded to this several times.
I'm am SO psyched for this next book. And I hear it's a lot smaller. I don't know if that's a good thing!

Date: 2004-10-15 05:36 pm (UTC)JKR implied at the recent Edinburgh Book Festival that book six was more than halfway complete. Also, during the World Book Day chat, she said:
"I can't say when it will be released, because that's down to my publishers. But it's going really well. I am loving writing it."
