Oh, what a wonderful day we had today!
Dec. 28th, 2002 10:48 pmNo snotty customers, no annoying staff, just happiness all around.
AND I got someone to buy all 10 of my movie recommendations, which (since they bought DVDs) made me wish I worked on commision.
So, since I'm sure everyone is just panting with anticipation, here they are (in no particular order):
The Women A cast made up entirely of Hollywood's best and brightest female stars of the 40s, the script is phenomenal (if outdated) and definitely worth it for that alone.
The Lion In Winter the author: William Goldman; the stars: Katherine Hepburn, Peter O'Toole, Timothy Dalton, Anthony Hopkins (in his first movie role); the subject: Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry the ?? fight over who will succeed him when he dies; it all melds together into my favorite movie of all times, very sarcastic and mean
Barbarella what can I say, it's good cheesy fun, nothing else; it's where Duran Duran got the inspiration for their name; the Orgasmatron
Dogma Kevin Smith rules the universe, if you're religious it will offend you, if you're not it will still find some way of offending you, if not that then grossing you out. And what other film maker would make Alanis Morrisette God?
McLintock The only John Wayne movie I like, he and Maureen O'Hara make the perfect foils for each other. A wonderful comedy
Empire Records It's frightening how much those guys match my staff at the video store I ran, damn funny too, kickass soundtrack.
Twice Upon A Time George Lucas did a cartoon! Funny and philosphical, interesting technique, GREAT characters
Casablanca need I explain?
Farinelli in French; about one of the last and, arguably, the greatest of the castrati opera singers, sumptuous and beautiful
Get Shorty a mobster goes to Hollywood and breaks into the film industry. Elmore Leonard wrote it. Stars John Travolta, Dann deVito, Gene Hackman & Rene Russo, great cameos by established stars, a comedy and a mystery
