the destructive power of ice
Jan. 15th, 2003 01:33 amGot to work today to see a big sign on the front door "Closed due to electrical problems" and all of the lights off. All of them. Even the emergency lights. Seems as though the ice had built up on the back of the store (behind the electrical panel wall) and had started melting causing a rather impressive (as Iwas told) short in the systme. No power for about three hours. unruly customers outside unti lpower finally came back on. We found out that the companies who installed the plumbing, electrical panels, alarm system and HVAC had ALL gone out of business. No surprise now why.
The cute Music Boy came in, we talked a little, still don't know his name. I talked with the girl with him, she was cool.
I have the next couple of days off, so will try to do some drawing and maybe post. Maybe learn to make icons, I need more only have two.
Decided not to apply for the AM position just yet, will wait until they offer me Interim or Training position and then show them what I can do. Hell, I've done it before. Ran three video stores for five years. Had the AM postion (four of them actually, before the changeover) for 3 years with my old store. The GM really annoys me sometime. I won't miss the current AM trying to fix the problems in the cafe, they're all ready to kill each other in there. So I've been told "they like you to put in extra time" - I'm hourly they won't LET me put in extra time. "Delegate" - what more can I delegate, I've already given up my sections, and most of the merchandising. The only things left are the inventory/paperwork stuff which they won't let me delegate, they like their .06% shrink in Multimedia. And I don't have the staff to delegate to, there's only 3 of them left, two full-time and 1 part-time. "Step up and expand into other areas" - I already know how to do the other things, trainer for two years, merchandising for two years, shelving for 1 year, inventory for (ummm, ok) 4 months, I was backup Office for three years, that only leaves cafe which I was told the AM was taking care of. Good grief I've been here a year and a half, for most of that time I was running the night crew and no one ever saw me. They also didn't have any problems with me, when I switched to days the productivity and the work attitude (I can't remember the right word) all tanked. They almost had the entire crew quit on them when the new supervisor came in. I think it should tell themsomething when my own manager flat out says "NO, I won't let you take him from me," when they wanted me to go back on the night crew. Not that I would have, I got tired of having no social life. And what do they think when they know that of the people who trained me, my old GM, and the 7 AMs, four of the AMs now run their own stores and the GM is the District Manger of Los Angeles. Hello, I know what I'm doing.
I regret leaving my old store now.
I just realized rambling here, and it will only really make sense to
dothelancedance.
I want to smack someone.
On a happier note I had a daydream (no, not a fantasy) of Kare coming into the store in full Dominatrix regalia and putting the beatdown on the annoying ones. It was fun, made me snicker and more cheeful for the rest of the day.
